In 2002, my dear friend Ying graduated from Berkeley (a year early!).  I wanted to make her a special card with just her name on it, but I wasn't sure how to go about it.  So I just started drawing.

After I had been drawing for a while and had some ink outlines, I was dismayed and thought the card was going to turn out terrible.  But I didn't have time to scrap it and make something new, so I just kept going.  I'm glad I did, because I was happy with the end result.

This card is a good lesson in perseverance and unexpectedness in art, since it turned out so well.  There's something very glowy about the name circles that I love; they look to me like translucent blue glass set in a mosaic.  And the buggy-flowery outer adornments have an Art Nouveau feel about them.  I like this card a lot.
